Testicular biopsy

It is a small surgery in which tissue is removed from the testicles and viewed under a microscope. The procedure is carried out with two objectives, one diagnostic and the other therapeutic, whose purpose is to determine the cause of infertility in men, as well as to obtain sperm when there is an absence of it in the ejaculated semen.

The surgery can be performed either by opening the skin of the scrotum or by aspiration with a special needle, so local or general anesthesia is administered in the area to the patient, in this way it does not cause pain and usually does not present serious complications .

What does it consist of?

Basically it is a simple painless technique since it is performed under anesthesia. In this procedure, one or more pieces of tissue are removed through small incisions in the testicles, which are sutured with stitches that fall out on their own or are reabsorbed.

The tissue obtained is observed under the microscope, which will allow the presence or absence of sperm to be detected, as well as the study of testicular tissue, all of this under the responsibility of a urology specialist with the support of a biologist.

It is recommended to avoid sexual activity for 1 to 2 weeks after the testicular biopsy.
