What is in vitro fertilization?
IVF
In vitro fertilization, as the name implies, is the process by which an egg is fertilized with a sperm in the laboratory, to obtain one or more quality embryos. In vitro fe
rtilization is one of the most outstanding and requested assisted reproductive techniques by our patients when initiating fertility treatment, because it is one of the techniques with the highest percentage of effectiveness.
In Celagem it is important to have clarity of the conditions in which the patient is located, that is to know with certainty what type of condition is causing infertility, in this way we can determine exactly the type of treatment that best suits patients, thus reaching a greater probability of getting the pregnancy.
In the case of in vitro fertilization this breeding technique is considered as a treatment of high complexity, since the process is a little longer and requires certain requirements to the patient that must be executed with strict rigor, unlike a treatment such as artificial insemination which is considered low complexity.
What is in vitro fertilization?
As we explained, it is a treatment that allows to fertilize an egg with a sperm with a sperm outside the uterus, more precisely in the laboratory, but to be able to reach this point, it is necessary to start with an ovarian stimul
ation treatment. Whether the patient's eggs are used or a donor's eggs are required, in both cases the purpose of ovarian stimulation in in vitro fertilization is to achieve more of a woman's eggs, this treatment lasts 10 to 12 days depending on how the patient's body responds , during this days she should give a daily injection in total ten injections of FSH follicle stimulating hormone and a final injection that will prevent ovulation until the day of the procedure, so that on the day twelve can be done the extraction of these eggs by the puncture of oocytes, said procedure is performed by sedation which makes the patient feel no discomfort and can take approximately 15 minutes. It is also necessary to have sperm either from the couple or from a donor, so it is necessary to obtain a semen sample. Once the
eggs and sperm have been obtained, they will be fertilized in the laboratory with the help of a microscope, thus forming one or more quality embryos, which can be implanted in the patient's uterus or a surrogate mother if they are the case.
What about the remaining embryos?
In order to be able to use the good quality embryos obtained in in vitro fertilization not transferred in a later cycle without the need for a new ovarian stimulation, vitrification of the embryos is carried out, which can be used if you want to try having a child again.
Duration:
The services of the patient follow-up program will be provided until the diagnosis of clinical pregnancy (week 12 of gestation), at which point the obligations of THE LATINY CENTER OF MOLECULAR GENETIC DIAGNOSTICs will end, with the exception of embryonic freezing. The formed and unused embryos shall be frozen for two (2) years from the time of embryo formation.
