Key steps and considerations involved in the process of surrogacy

1. Study and selection of the Egg Donor

At Celagem we partner with one of the best egg banks from Latin America, we conduct exhaustive screening of female candidates for egg donors in order to guarantee the maximum suitability and safety of the donation. Within the studies that are carried out, we can find.

The process:

  1. Psychological evaluation.
  2. Evaluation of personal medical history and family.

  3. Chromosomal and genetic studies.

  4. General analysis including blood group and Rh factor testing, serology for syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, HIV serology, and coagulation tests.

  5. Study for Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and screening for the 10 most common sexually transmitted diseases.

We take utmost care in selecting our egg donors to ensure the highest standards of safety and suitability for our intended parents.

2- Study and selection of the gestational carrier

While our clinic focuses exclusively on the clinical aspects of surrogacy, we’ve partnered with a trusted organization that facilitates connections between intended parents and surrogate mothers. This ally also provides support to ensure that all parties involved fulfill their obligations and that their rights are respected throughout the process.

4- The legal process of Gestation by Substitution

At Celagem, our legal team provides guidance and support throughout the surrogacy process, ensuring that all parties involved comply with the requirements set by the Colombian legal framework. We also manage the necessary roles to ensure that intended parents can take their babies back to their home countries without legal issues.

Legal considerations:

  1. Legal Contracts: These contracts outline the rights, responsibilities, and expectations of all parties involved.

  2. Legal Clearance: The surrogate mother undergoes a thorough legal clearance process to ensure she meets the legal requirements for surrogacy, which may vary depending on the jurisdiction.

  3. Parental Rights: The legal process ensures that the intended parents have full and legal parental rights over the child born through surrogacy.

  4. Medical and Insurance Considerations: The legal process may involve addressing medical and insurance considerations, such as ensuring that the surrogate mother has appropriate medical insurance coverage for the pregnancy and childbirth, and that the intended parents are financially responsible for any medical expenses incurred during the surrogacy process.

  5. Compliance with Local Laws: Celagem ensures that the entire surrogacy process is carried out in compliance with local laws and regulations.

  6. Legal Representation: Throughout the surrogacy process, all parties involved may have legal representation to ensure their rights and interests are protected.

It’s important to note that the legal process of Gestation by Substitution may vary depending on the jurisdiction, and it’s crucial for all parties involved to seek legal advice and follow the local laws and regulations to ensure a legally sound and valid surrogacy arrangement.
